doing it already
2016-01-01Take your arm. Grab it with your hand and squeeze it, making it somewhat unpleasant. The unpleasantness, the hurt, is a signal, a feedback. It is a direct and effortless guiding. No learning is needed, as you know and loosen your grip for the hurting to stop. The hurt is your guidance, it is helpful. It tells you not to go that way, it tells you that your behavior is not serving you, it asks you to change your ways. You know this, and so you change your ways. You change the forceful grip of your hand into something more gentle. As soon as you loosen your grip, you have changed your way. The hurt lessens, the guidance starts to disappear. You know this, you do this already, there is no thought or effort involved in this.
When you step with your bare feet on a pointy rock, the interaction between the rock and your foot brings you hurt. The unpleasant feeling that arises from this kind of interaction asks for your attention. It motivates you to change your ways. You might shift your weight, you might bend your knee. Whatever you do, you'll move, in this case literally, in a different way. You changed your way, and with it the painful interaction fades.
A person calls you something you do not like to hear, and an uncomfortable emotion arises. There is a chance that the emotion triggers some thoughts. These thoughts, colored by this emotion, makes you feel the emotion even more. As the emotion becomes stronger it brings out even more thoughts of that quality. Your thoughts and emotions are playing ping-pong. You seem not to go anywhere where you want to go with this.
You know how to deal with this. You are being guided just as with your physical body. You know how to deal with these unpleasant sensations. But somehow you act with the emotional body in a different way as with the physical one. But you know how to coop with this. You do not need to learn anything. Do as you do when walking bare feet. Do as you do when gripping your arm.
